Personal Branding

Designing for yourself is never an easy task. For this project, I wanted to capture who I am as a designer, and where I want to go. I tend to design in very clean ways that feel very modern. In my personal work, I do quite the opposite most of the time. I wanted to keep a really similar style across my personal branding to maintain a clean presentation that was easy to interact with. However, I wanted to also explore the other side of me where I am a little less clean.

Sketches

Originally I go by Jonathan Paige Design which is where JPD comes from. My middle name is Paige, and I don’t love my last name. With that in mind, I decided to switch things up and tighten up my branding by just going by my full name and dropping the word ‘design’ as it feels very cliché. Despite the naming convention, I still went with a simple monogram to represent my brand.

Logomark

For my logo mark, I wanted to stray away from using a sans-serif typeface. Although I design in a sans-serif manner the majority of the time, I see myself somewhere more in the middle between sans-serif and serif. The typeface I created this mark with called Avara felt like a great middle ground to me. It feels like a mix between the two while also highlighting some areas that are more rough around the edges. I purposefully did not include my full name or that I am a designer in the mark because I don’t feel the need to over-explain who I am.

Color

Black and white is what I tend to stick to to simplify communication and it also feels the most like me. However, my favorite color is green and I do think it has a place in the lineup. I felt that red and yellow would also provide some amazing contrast to black, white, and green so I chose this suit of colors.

Typography

Neue Haas Grotesk is my favorite typeface to use and it feels like the perfect choice to represent myself and my brand. I have tried testing many sans-serif typefaces but none of them can really compete with the way Neue Hass Grotesk presents itself. Some come pretty close but at the end of the day, this is always the best decision.
